Student Judicial Affairs Graduate Assistant Positions

Student Judicial Affairs offers two graduate assistantships for either a nine-month or twelve-month appointment.

Job Description

The SJA Graduate Assistant, under the supervision of the Coordinator for Student Judicial Affairs, performs duties as assigned in Student Judicial Affairs. The GA serves as a case manager for the Back on TRAC deferred suspension program (see Section VIII of the Code of Conduct). In this role, the GA meets with participating students on a weekly basis and follows up with their progress in the program, academically, and socially. The GA then presents on each student at weekly staffing team meetings as well as takes detailed notes of court proceedings. The GA serves as a consultant on the staffing team, which monitors participant progress and recommends appropriate program participation. The GA may also serve as a University presenter and trainer for the Greek Life Judicial Boards. In this role, the GA may investigate cases, coordinate information, maintain recordkeeping, and present the case for the University before the Judicial Board. The GA may conduct follow-up meetings with students who have been sanctioned by a hearing officer. Conducting educational trainings and outreach presentations related to student conduct to campus groups and organizations, as well as classes, are another GA responsibility. The GA also assists in preparing for formal hearings, as well as with training the Student Judicial Committee. The GA collaborates closely with Student Judicial Committee members and the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs. Very detailed recordkeeping is another important part of the assistantship, as well as preparing professional correspondence for students, parents, attorneys, etc. The GA will become familiar with concepts and methods of due process, confidentiality, adjudication, sanctioning and follow-up, professional ethics, and case management.

Minimum Qualifications

* Admission to a graduate level program at OSU (i.e. masters or doctoral)

Desirable Qualifications

* Familiarity with student conduct issues

* Experience with Greek Life

* Experience with student discipline through Greek Life or Residential Life

* Ability to work and collaborate with diverse groups

* Experience advising students

* Excellent oral and written communication skills

* Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint as well as website development/maintenance

Preference will be given to students pursuing degrees in related fields (i.e. College Student Development).

Compensation

Compensation is $1100 per month for 20 hours per week.
