Counseling
How do I know I need
Assessment or counseling?
Peer pressure about drinking
or taking drugs can be stressful
and overwhelming.
Assessments or counseling can
also be ordered as a result of
arrest and legal requirements,
or student conduct academic
requirements. Students
seek counseling for a variety of
reasons. Any substance
abuse issue of concern is a
legitimate topic to explore with
the counselor. Assessments
can determine if you have a
substance abuse problem.
What happens in a
counseling session?
Sometimes students shy away
from counseling because they do
not know what to expect.
The ASAC offers a safe,
nonjudgmental environment where
you may speak privately yet
openly about thoughts and
feelings. The ASAC
Counselor can help you gain
insight into your concerns about
substance use and abuse and
explore options for change.
You and your counselor focus on
your concerns; however,
decisions about solutions for
issues are yours to make.
What if I don't want
anyone to know I'm seeing a
counselor?
Confidentiality is taken
seriously at the ASAC.
Only you have the right to tell
others that you are speaking to
a counselor. The ASAC
staff are ethically and legally
bound and committed to maintain
your privacy. There are
specific exceptions to
confidentiality that will be
explained when you initiate
counseling.
How do I make an
appointment?
Currently enrolled OSU
students are eligible for
services. To schedule an
appointment, call or come by 336
Student Union (744-2818). In your
