OSU Campus Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention

About Us

The Campus Coalition for Substance Abuse Prevention membership includes prevention professionals and other interested parties from institutions of higher education in Oklahoma State University.  Contacts are organized alphabetically by institution/organization.  Questions about the list or about becoming involved with the Campus Coalition may be directed to Linda Myers, Alcohol and Substance Abuse Center.

This coalition is open to any interested student, faculty, staff, or community member who is concerned about the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs.  The coalition meets approximately 9 months of the year, generally on the 3rd Thursday mornings of that month.

The Campus Coalition Plan for Progress

Our goal: To improve academic success and the quality of student life on the campus of Oklahoma State University by increasing healthy lifestyles and reducing the harm associated with alcohol and other drug abuse.  The Campus Coalition seeks to achieve this goal through a Statewide Initiative, a concerted effort by institutions of higher education, state government officials, and community organizations.  These state partners collaborate to change aspects of the campus and community environment that contribute to high-risk drinking and other drug use.

The Plan

1.  Coordinate training of campus and community teams for collaborative problem identification and solution.
2. Assist campus teams in improving the development, implementation and evaluation of prevention and intervention programs to reduce substance abuse.
3.  Mobilize key campus and community members to collaborate in addressing the problems associated with substance abuse.
4.  Provide net-working assistance with campus and community for substance abuse prevention.

Future Accomplishments of the Coalition May Include:

  • Distribution of alcohol and other drug information at alcohol and awareness events
  • Collaborate with Alcohol and Substance Abuse Center to offer National Alcohol Screening Day
  • Collaborate with the OSU Police Department, Faculty, and Staff in providing alcohol and other drug information during Safer Spring Break and National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week events
  • Distribute Safer Spring Break educational handouts
  • Provide DUI penalty information/promote the use of designated drivers
  • Provide educational opportunities, including Drunk Driving Glasses and the OSU Police Officers and Victim Impact Panel for students to learn more about alcohol and drug abuse information during National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (October)
  • Form campus Self Help Support Groups
