Introduction

Under OpenVMS, you can use any of the following methods to run the SAS System:

• SAS Explorer (see Using SAS with the SAS Explorer Window)

• SAS windowing environment (see Using SAS with the Windowing Environment)

• DMSEXP mode (see Using SAS in the DMSEXP Mode)

• batch mode (see Using SAS in Batch Mode)

• interactive line mode (see Using SAS in Interactive Line Mode)

• noninteractive mode (see Using SAS in Noninteractive Mode).

Note:    You can also run SAS in a SPAWN/NOWAIT subprocess or in a detached process. SPAWN allows you to use the SAS windowing environment. However, the detached process method is similar to batch mode for queues. For details about these methods, see Running SAS in a SPAWN/NOWAIT Subprocess and Running SAS in a Detached Process.  

This section also provides information about several other aspects of using the SAS System in the OpenVMS operating environment.
