Enrollment/Registration FAQ

1. What is Registration Services and where is it located?

Registration Services (also known as Sectioning) is located at the front counter of the Office of the Registrar. We are located in 322 Student Union (Stillwater). Tulsa students may go to Enrollment Services on the OSU-Tulsa campus.


2. What is required to enroll?

Before you can enroll in classes each semester, you should meet with your adviser. You must also have any registration holds cleared. Then you can enroll online using the Student Information System (SIS) -OR- you may bring a Trial Study form or drop/add card signed by your adviser to the Office of the Registrar (Stillwater) or Enrollment Services (Tulsa).


3. How do I add a class?

If you are already enrolled and wish to add a class during the non-restrictive period, you may do so via the Student Information System (SIS) -OR- you may visit the Office of the Registrar and complete an add card there. During the restrictive period you need the consent of your adviser and the instructor of the class. These signatures should be on the add card and must be brought to the Office of the Registrar. Please see the Enrollment Guide or the Academic Calendar for applicable non-restrictive and restrictive drop/add dates.


4. How do I drop a class?   

If you wish to drop a class during the non-restrictive period, you may do so via the the Student Information System (SIS) -OR- you may visit the Office of the Registrar and complete a drop card there. During the restrictive period you need the consent of your adviser. This signature should be on the drop card and must be brought to the Office of the Registrar by the last day to drop. Please see the Enrollment Guide or the Academic Calendar for the applicable non-restrictive and restrictive drop/add dates.


5. I don’t have an adviser, or I don’t know who my adviser is, or I can never find my adviser – what do I do?

Contact your college’s Student Academic Services Office for information about your academic adviser.


6. What is an adviser hold? Why do I have an adviser hold?  How do I remove an adviser hold?

An adviser hold is automatically placed on every undergraduate student at the beginning of enrollment for each semester. This is to insure that you consult with your adviser prior to enrollment. Once you have contacted your adviser, the adviser removes the enrollment hold in the Student Information System (SIS). Once the hold has been removed then you will be able to enroll (during the unrestricted period) via the internet or by bringing a signed (by your adviser) Trial Study Form to the Office of the Registrar.


7. How do I clear a hold on my enrollment?

8. How do I audit a course?

You may wish to audit a course and not receive credit in the course with the approval of the instructor of the course.  You will be able to attend the class strictly as a visitor. The 'Visitor's Card for Class Audit' form is available in the Office of the Registrar.  Classes that have a lab, private music lessons and art courses are not open for audit. If a student already has a transcript at this institution and wishes to have the grade of “AU” recorded on the transcript, the 'Visitor's Card for Class Audit' form will need to be signed by the instructor of record at the end of the semester and returned to Office of the Registrar no later than one week after the close of the semester. If you are currently enrolled in the class and wish to change to an audit, you must officially drop the course or, if appropriate, withdraw.

9. How do I cancel my enrollment for an upcoming semester? Can I do it online? 

To cancel enrollment for an upcoming semester you must submit the request in writing prior to the first day of classes. You may print the Admission/Enrollment Cancellation Request and mail, fax or bring the completed form to the Office of the Registrar, 322 Student Union. Tulsa students may contact Enrollment Services for instructions.

10. I am in the military and I am being called to active duty.  What do I need to do?

 If you are called to active duty during the term in which you are enrolled and have not completed sufficient work for receiving a grade and in good standing academically, the institution is authorized to waive the tuition and fees for that semester.  You need to provide a copy of your active duty orders to the Office of the Registrar to initiate the withdrawal process.

 


11. How do I reset my Personal Identification Number (PIN)?   

You should bring some form of official photo identification such as your Passport, Drivers License, or Student ID Card to the Office of the Registrar (Stillwater) or Enrollment Services (Tulsa) to have your PIN reset to your birth date. If you cannot come to the Office of the Registrar, you can fax a request to our office at (405) 744-8426. Your signature and the date of the request, your CWID number and a copy of your photo ID must be included with the request.  Please include your e-mail address if you wish to be notified when your PIN is reset.  Current students have the option to log into Student Information System (SIS) using their Okey information.


12. How can I enroll in a closed section?

A student may enroll in a closed section of a course if the following requirements are met:

  • The department head (not the instructor) agrees to increase the class size and provides you with a signed memo (on OSU letterhead) giving you permission to enroll.
  • The increase in class size does not exceed the limit set by the fire marshal.
  • You must bring the signed memo into the Office of the Registrar with a valid photo ID.

13. How do I enroll in two courses that are showing a time conflict?

You must obtain a memo or letter (on official OSU letterhead) from the instructor of each class stating that the time conflict is not a problem. These signatures can be on separate memos/letters or on a single memo/letter.


14. Where do I find information on short courses?

Short courses have different start and end dates than regular full-semester courses.  Drop and add dates are different than drop and add dates for regular full-semester courses. A list of short courses offered each semester with their add and drop dates is available on our Class Schedules page. 15. Where do I find information on Internet courses?

A listing of Internet courses for each semester can be found on our Class Schedules page by clicking the 'Internet Courses' link for the applicable semester.

16. Where do I enroll in correspondence courses?

You can find information about the courses offered and enrollment requirements through the Independent Study website.


17. How do I take a class as Pass No-Pass?

A request for the Pass-No Pass grading option requires the signature of your adviser and must be filed in the Office of the Registrar (Stillwater) or Enrollment Services (Tulsa) no later than the last day to add the course for the semester or session. Blank forms are available in our office.

18. When should I file a Petition for Excessive Hours?

Whenever you want to exceed the maximum course load for the semester, a Petition for Excessive Hours must be filed with the Office of the Registrar.  Blank forms are available in the Office of the Registrar (Stillwater) or Enrollment Services (Tulsa). This form requires signature from you, your adviser, and the dean of your college. 

  • The maximum undergraduate course load for fall or spring is 19 hours and can be increased up to 24 hours. The maximum undergraduate course load for summer is 12 hours and can be increased to 16 hours.
  • Graduate students must also have the approval of the Graduate College. The maximum graduate course load for fall or spring is 16 hours with a maximum course load of 9 hours in the summer.

19. I have declared two degrees and am graduating this semester. I see only one degree on SIS. Why is my other degree not listed?

At this time, SIS is only able to display one degree in progress at a time. The additional degree will be applied at the end of the unofficial transcript that is available to view on SIS. If it does not appear on the unofficial transcript, contact the Office of the Registrar to check your record.
