Upcoming Ambassador Opportunities

Oklahoma State University staff are ambassadors for OSU. Often, they are the first, and even the most important, contact for a person on the telephone, a student in need of assistance, or a person in need of answers.

With this in mind, OSU Human Resources/Training Services has developed the OSU Ambassador Program to enhance the knowledge and skills of the people who play this critical role in the public perception of OSU and its smooth, efficient operation. Successful completion shows a desire for continuous learning and improvement.

Why an Ambassador Program?
OSU staff have expressed a desire to enhance their skills through a formalized program designed specifically for their needs. The OSU Ambassador Program is a program to help you develop both professionally and personally to increase your contribution to OSU.

How Does the Program Work?
The program consists of 30 hours of seminars. The 15 hours of required core courses focus on basic functions of all employees. The 15 hours of specially marked electives are selected by you to meet your particular job needs and interests. If you have attended any of the core programs within the last 12 months, you may not need to repeat the program. Simply call OSU Human Resources/Training Services (405) 744-5374, and let them know the program and date attended.

What are the Required Courses?
There are six required courses:
At Your Service! (3 hours) will show you how to deliver top quality OSU service.
Building Interpersonal Skills (3 hours) improves interaction with others, dealing with emotions and tense situations, persuading, and selling your ideas.

How Do I Decide What Electives to Choose?
Not all employees share the same responsibilities or work with constituents in exactly the same ways. To address different job duties, we have provided electives which encompass many areas. Choice of electives depends largely upon what you do and how you interact with people on a day-to-day basis. We suggest you visit with your supervisor and select the electives that are most beneficial for your particular position.
You will successfully complete the elective portion of the Ambassador Program by attending any combination of approved elective classes that total 15 hours.

Are Courses Available Only to Those Enrolled in the Program?
No. All required courses and electives are open for enrollment by everyone.

How Do I Keep Track of the Programs I Have Attended?
When you enroll for the Ambassador Program, you will be given a record sheet on which to document the seminar title and date you take the seminar.

What Happens When I Complete All of the Requirements?
Once you have finished the required 30 hours of training, send a copy of the completed record sheet to OSU Human Resources/Training Services, 106 Whitehurst. We will verify your attendance and issue a framed certificate showing your successful completion of the OSU Ambassador Program.

How Long Does it Take to Complete the Program?
Some employees will be able to complete the entire program in one year; however, employees have up to two years to complete the program requirements.

What Does the Program Cost?
The cost of the program varies depending upon the courses you choose. Individual cost of each seminar will be shown in the Seminar Descriptions found on http://hr.okstate.edu.
