Upcoming ALP Opportunities
OSU has developed an exciting new leadership program designed for leaders and presented by leaders. The
Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) is a continuing program available only to
graduates of OSU's Leadership Development Program (LDP) who want to refresh, enhance, or
deepen their leadership skills. Such exclusivity recognizes the training and development commitment already
undertaken by these OSU employees.
Why an Advanced Leadership Program?
Leadership training and development is a continuing process. The LDP has been very successful, featuring such
subjects as communications, policies and procedures, legal issues, delegation, and all areas of the employment
experience from hiring to termination including performance feedback. Graduates of the program have expressed the
desire for additional opportunities.
LDP graduates have expressed a desire for more opportunities to receive inspiration, understand their contributions
toward OSU's mission, gain first-hand experiences, and continue to enhance their knowledge. ALP will provide an
opportunity for sharing new ideas and developing talents to meet OSU's mission.
How does the ALP work?
LDP graduates who are committed to continued learning and development may become participants of the ALP.
Participants are asked to make a commitment to attend at least three of the special opportunities events and an
additional 15 hours of professional development seminars.
What programs will be offered?
The ALP consists of special opportunities and professional development programs. The ALP special opportunities
are one and one-half hour sessions that consist of timely topics related to OSU. The professional development
segment of the program will consist of seminars on leadership topics. These may be programs offered by OSU Human
Resources/Training Services, the Executive Briefings, and applicable seminars offered by Center for Executive and
Professional Development and other companies.
What are special opportunities?
The ALP special opportunities sessions are exclusively planned for ALP participants in order to increase their
awareness of OSU and its mission. This year will feature:
- Athletics, Mike Holder; Featuring Boone Pickens Stadium
- OSU Botanical Gardens, Kim Rebek; OSU Botanical Gardens
Visit
- OSU Okmulgee, Dr. Robert Klabenes; OSU Institute
for Technology-Okmulgee Campus Tour
- Dean, Dr. Sara Freedman; Spears School of Business
Showcase
- Student Affairs Vice President, Dr. Lee Bird; What's New
with Student Affairs?
- OSU Communications, Gary Shutt; Working with the Media
All topics have a primary focus of assisting participants in learning about OSU and its mission and gaining a
broader perspective from key OSU leaders. These sessions will be informal with an opportunity for participants to share
perspectives with speakers and other leaders on campus.
What are professional development opportunities?
Professional development opportunities would include leadership training and development seminars offered by OSU
Human Resources and attendance at other programs including the Executive Briefings and suitable programs offered by
Center for Executive and Professional Development. These sessions are not exclusive to ALP participants.

Participants will be asked to complete an evaluation at the end of each year in which they list the special
opportunities and professional development courses they attended. In addition, participants will evaluate the
program and indicate ways in which they have been able to utilize what they have learned in the past year on the
job, on campus, or in the community.
How much does the program cost?
No fees will be charged for the special opportunities sessions which are limited to ALP participants only.
Cost to participants is limited to the fee assessed for whatever professional development seminars the participant
selects.
How do I enroll in the program?
