Plug Propagation

A plug is a small plant that has been seeded into a plug tray. Plug trays contain hundreds of little cells. We buy these trays in the middle of winter to give the transplants time to grow and develop before the sale.

The small plugs are potted up into the pots or cell packs where they will remain until the sale.

The plants are then moved to a bench in the greenhouse and labeled if necessary.

Shortly before the sale, the plants will have fill in and be ready to put in the ground. Many of the plants also need to have the flowers removed at this stage so that they will have a chance to produce new flowers in time for the plant sale.
