Cutting Propagation

To propagate from cuttings, a cutting is taken from a stock plant in the Teaching Greenhouses. For proper rooting, a hormone is applied to the base of most cuttings.

The cuttings are planted directly into propagating media where they will eventually root.

Cuttings Are Placed Directly In Media

Freshly propagted plants are placed on a mist bench where the humidity remains high until the plant has a chance to produce its own roots.

Once the cutting has rooted, it is moved off of the mist bench and allowed to grow. When necessary, the plants are potted up into bigger pots.
