and field techniques.
Fee in Addition to Tuition:
Required field trip appx. $45
Exams and Major
Assignments:
 |
Quizzes: As we complete each
chapter topic, a closed-book, in-class quiz will be given to students.
Quizzes will be closely patterned after the study guide questions. Some
questions may be asked about images of landforms shown in class. Quizzes must be taken when scheduled; expect weekly quizzes. Under
exception circumstances of personal hardship (i.e., approved absence by OSU
regulations), and with arrangements made with me prior to the exam, a
make-up quiz may be scheduled. |
 |
Final Exam: The final exam will
be comprehensive, with questions closely patterned after those on the
quizzes. Some questions may be asked about images of landforms shown in
class. |
 |
Lab Exercises:
1. Your work is
due at the next lab session, unless otherwise announced. Late
assignments will be penalized 5% points per day unless you have made prior
arrangements with the TA. Late labs are not accepted at all
without arrangements made prior with the TA. Once all of the labs have been handed back
to students, late labs are no longer accepted.
2. Once
the graded labs are handed back to the students with the correct answers,
students have on week until the next lab to review their lab and ask for any
clarification/explanation/mistakes etc.
3. Write neatly
with pencil (no pen), staple your materials together, and be certain to
label with your name. All of your work should be completed on clean
sheets of paper, not on the glazed pages of the lab book unless directed
specifically by the TA to do so. Labs that are not stapled together will not
be accepted. 4.
Students are expected to work independently on all assignments, unless
otherwise directed. Academic dishonesty or misconduct are not tolerated and
will result in appropriate action under OSU Policy and Procedure Letter
2-0822. 5.
Unless a student has made preliminary arrangements, a student who does not
attend lab, or leaves lab early, waive her/his right to "out of class"
help. 6.
Labs are to be handed in directly to the TA, or put in the mailbox with the
TA's consent, never to be left on top of a desk or table. |
Other Requirements:
 |
Poster Presentation - Each
student will develop a poster using Powerpoint, 36 inches x 48 inches in
size, that describes a landform of your choice. The poster should describe
each of the following for your landform: name, distinctive shape, general
position in the landscape, local relief, materials comprising the landform
processes that form and maintain the landform, age. Each poster should have
images of examples, clearly labeled with the place name and source of the
image. For some landforms, a map might be included that shows where they are
found. |

 |
Students are expected to
attend all class sessions, arrive to class on time, and remain attentive
until the class is dismissed. If you miss class, you are responsible
for all material presented in that session from students who attended.
|
 |
You will be excused from the
quiz that day if you have a university-approved reason (e.g., illness, other
require university events). Students who do not miss a quiz for any reason
are allowed to drop their lowest score at the end of the semester. |
Extra Credit:
Opportunities for extra credit may be announced during class throughout the
semester. To adhere to the policy adopted by the OSU School of Geology, the
total extra credit earned cannot raise a student's grade by more than one letter
grade (i.e., 10%)
