2005 Award Package for National Merit Scholars at Oklahoma State University (2005-2006 New Freshmen at OSU)

Nonresident Merit Finalists & Merit Scholars Only

Oklahoma State University welcomes all Merit Finalists and Merit Scholars. OSU offers a very competitive scholarship package to National Merit Scholars. We look forward to seeing you at OSU!

Nonresident National Merit Finalists in the 2005 National Merit Program who name OSU as their first choice with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation, submit the Academic Scholars application* to OSRHE prior to college entry, and apply for admission/scholarships to OSU are guaranteed the following package of cash and tuition waiver scholarships:

OSRHE Academic Scholars Program: $22,000

National Merit Finalists recieve a $5,500 per academic year ($2,750 per semester) cash scholarship from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for up to four years.

Requirements to retain this award for subsequent years (maximum duration of award is four years):

  • Maintain a 3.25 cumulative graduation/retention GPA.
  • Earn 24 credit hours by the end of the spring term each year.
  • Be enrolled as a full time student at OSU.

Funds from the OSRHE Academic Scholar cash award will be deposited to your OSU bursar account each semester and will pay toward your costs for books, fees, housing, etc., up to $2,750/semester.

Full Waiver of Nonresident Tuition: $34,000 (est.)

Nonresident Merit Finalists who become OSRHE Academic Scholars recieve a full waiver of the nonresident portion of your tuition charges from Oklahoma State University for up to five years. Waives 100% of nonresident tuition; recipients must pay resident tuition.

Requirements to retain this award for subsequent years (maximum duration of award is five years):

  • Maintain a 3.0 cumulative graduation/retention GPA.
  • Earn 24 credit hours by the end of the spring term each year.
  • Be enrolled as a full time student at OSU.

The actual value of the nonresident tuition waiver will vary depending on existing tuition rates and the number and type of hours the student takes. As tuition rates increase, the value of this nonresident tuition waiver will also increase. Certain terms and conditions apply.

National Merit Cash Scholarship: $4,000

National Merit Finalists specifying OSU as first choice will be offered one of three Merit Scholar awards by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. To become a Merit Scholar, a Merit Finalist must accept National Merit's offer of Merit Scholar status.

The $4,000 total includes any amount funded by National Merit Scholarship Corporation or by a corporate sponsor of a Merit Scholar award.

OSU-sponsored Merit Scholars

Will receive $1,000 per year in OSU cash scholarship for four years. Student must remain in good academic standing at OSU to receive the award in subsequent years (maximum duration of award is four years).

National Merit-sponsored Merit Scholars

Receive a one-time, $2,500 award from National Merit in their freshman year. They will receive a $1,500 cash award from OSU in their sophomore year provided they retain full eligibility for the OSRHE Academic Scholar cash award that year.

Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholar

Awards vary considerably in duration and value. Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholars receiving less than $1,000 per year receive a cash award from OSU sufficient to total $1,000 in combined OSU & corporate cash each year up to four years (limited to $1,000 in any one year and $4,000 over four years) provided they retain full eligibility for the OSRHE Academic Scholar cash award each year.

TOTAL VALUE OF PACKAGE: $60,000

Other scholarships awarded to you by other offices or organizations may be added to this total package, increasing your total scholarship award, provided they do not exceed your cost of attendance at OSU. (A student may have only one tuition waiver in effect at any time.)

*Merit Finalists must submit the OSRHE Academic Scholar Program application to OSRHE with proof of Merit Finalist status.
