How do I document that I am a financially needy student for purposes of scholarship eligibility?

Apply for federal financial aid by submitting the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

We recommend that you submit the FAFSA early in the calendar year (anytime after January 1) to be considered for aid for the next school year.  For example, you are encouraged to submit the FAFSA early in 2006 for federal aid for the 2006-2007 school year. 

While you certainly may submit the FAFSA later in the year, it is to your advantage to apply early to be considered for the widest variety of types of federal aid.  Of course, you must also apply for scholarships.
