Information for Veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces ( PDF Version )

If you are either a veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces or are receiving benefits as a dependent of a veteran, Federal regulations require that we count all veterans educational benefits you receive as a financial resource when determining your eligibility for Federal student aid. Before we can process your financial aid application we need documentation of the type(s) and amount(s) of your benefits for the school year. No determination of federal aid eligibility will be made until all requested documents are received.

The Muskogee Regional V.A. Office can only assist you if you have previously received veterans educational benefits. If you are applying for benefits for the first time, allow four to six weeks after the beginning of the semester for the Regional V.A. Office to provide you with a letter of eligibility. If you have questions about the following verification requirements, please contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

If you will receive veterans educational benefits anytime during the enrollment period from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008 under any of the following chapters you must provide copies of your V.A. award letter(s), if available, for the Fall, Spring and/or Summer' 06 Semester(s):

  • Chapter 30      Active Duty Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB-AD)
  • Chapter 31      Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Chapter 32      Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)
  • Chapter 35      Survivor's and Dependent Educational Assistance Program (DEA)
  • Section 156     Restored Entitlement Benefit for Survivors (REPS)
  • Chapter 1606  Selective Reserve Montgomery GI Bill (MGIB-SR)
  • Chapter 1607  Reserve Education Assistance Program (REAP)

You must provide copies of your V.A. award letter(s): If you have not received your V.A. award letter for the academic year, follow these instructions:

  • Chapters 30, 32, 35, 1606 and 1607 : Contact the OSU Veterans Coordinator in the Registrar's Office, 322 Student Union. You will be required to complete a Verification of Veterans Benefits for Financial Aid form. Based on the information you provide on the form and information from the V.A., the Veterans Coordinator will determine a monthly benefit. Submit a copy of this form to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.
  • Chapter 31: Call your VA Rehab Counselor for documentation of your benefits.
  • Section 156: Call the Muskogee Regional V.A. Office at 1-888-442-4551 and request a form letter for your financial aid file. Be sure to have your name, Social Security Number and the "C" number that pertains to your parents' record when you call. The V.A. representative will provide you with a signed, handwritten form letter that includes your claim number, latest benefit amount, chapter/title and number of months of remaining eligibility. Submit the original letter from the V.A. to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid; keep a copy for your records.

If you will not receive veterans educational benefits anytime during the enrollment period from July 1 to June 30 you must document your ineligibility by providing either:

  • A copy of your last V.A. award letter or other official document stating the date your educational benefits ceased; or
  • Documentation from the Muskogee Regional V.A. Office at 1-888-442-4551. Ask the VA representative for a form letter indicating that you are not eligible for educational benefits (for example, you may have used all of your entitlement). Submit the original letter to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid; keep a copy for your records.
