Financial Aid Disbursement Information

Generally, all OSU scholarships, grants and loans are credited (disbursed) to your University account with the OSU Bursar’s Office (this is not the same as a refund to your checking account). The first time most grants, loans and scholarships for the spring semesters are scheduled to show on student Bursar accounts is the beginning of the first week of classes (OTAG, OHLAP-Oklahoma's Promise, Cowboy Covenant, and SMART Grants are disbursed after the end of the 100% tuition refund period).

Any funds remaining once all charges have been paid are refunded to the student by the Bursar’s Office. If you have questions about when/how remaining financial aid is sent to your checking account or to you by mail, please contact the Bursar’s Office, 113 Student Union.

We encourage you to use OSU SIS-Web for Students (http://prodosu.okstate.edu) to see if your aid has been credited to your OSU Bursar Account. If you have any additional questions about disbursement of your financial aid after checking SIS-Web, please visit with one of our financial aid advisors or email us at finaid@okstate.edu.

  • OTAG, OHLAP, Cowboy Covenant, and SMART Grant Recipients: First disbursement of these funds will not occur until after the end of the 100% tuition refund period (check SIS after January 21st).
  • Financial aid is credited (disbursed to your OSU account with the Bursar's Office; financial aid disbursement is NOT a direct deposit into your bank account. Information on how the Bursar's Office refunds remaining aid once OSU charges are paid is listed in "refunds of Excess Funds."
  • Beginning the 2nd week of school, any subsequent disbursements would appear on Bursar accounts on Monday or Wednesday mornings.

How Can I Tell if My Aid has been Disbursed (credited to my Bursar account)?

  • Check your awards and disbursement status using OSU SIS Web for Students.
  • Go to the "Financial Aid" tab and select "Award Information by Year" to view awards and disbursements.

Refunds of Excess Funds:

  • The OSU Bursar’s Office processes refunds to students who have remaining money on their accounts after all current charges (including current-semester Residential Life charges) have been paid. For refunds of Direct Parent Loans, the parent borrower can complete a refund form from the Bursar's Office specifying whether any refund is to go to the student or back to the parent borrower.
  • Direct Deposit of refunds are processed daily by the Bursar's Office. If you don’t have Direct Deposit, we strongly encourage you take a deposit slip or voided check to the Bursar’s Office in 113 Student Union and complete the required form. You can also download the Direct Deposit Form from the Bursar's Office website.
  • Refund Checks for students who have not signed up for Direct Deposit are mailed by the Bursar's Office once every two weeks.

What Will Prevent Disbursement of Financial Aid?

Your eligibility for assistance is based on your educational costs, your enrollment plans, your financial need, and the availability of funds at the time of your award.  Any change to these factors after your original award has been made and/or disbursed may cause an adjustment to your eligibility and/or require repayment of some or all federal, state, university, and/or private funds you received for which you were not eligible.

Enrollment Changes and Financial Aid Eligibility:

  • Dropping classes during the 100% tuition refund period:  If you drop classes during the 100% refund period, your financial aid will be revised based on the new level of enrollment. You may be required to repay some or all previously disbursed aid.
  • Withdrawing from all classes:  If you withdraw from all classes, financial aid eligibility will be recalculated based on the number of days you were enrolled. You may be required to return funds to the OSU Bursar's Office. If your aid has not been disbursed, you may be eligible to receive a portion of the aid you have accepted.
  • Failure to attend class throughout the semester:  If you enroll for classes and you do not withdraw; yet you fail to attend class throughout the semester, you may be required to return funds to the OSU Bursar's Office. Your financial aid eligibility will be recalculated based on the last date of attendance as reported by the instructor(s). Any aid based on classes for which attendance cannot be determined will be returned to the aid programs. You will be required to repay all aid returned.
  • Scholarships:  Most undergraduate cash and tuition scholarships require a minimum of 12 hours of enrollment each semester.
  • Multi-Year Scholarships: You may have to complete a specific number of hours and attain a specific GPA each academic year to retain the scholarship. If you are unsure of the requirements, review your scholarship award letter and acceptance form or contact the awarding department/agency.
  • Graduate Students: Check with your academic department to determine the enrollment requirements to receive a graduate scholarships/tuition waiver.

Have You Received Additional Awards?

In general, students cannot receive more financial assistance than their cost of attendance. If you have not already done so, you should notify our office of the additional award(s) by completing the online Additional Resources Form. If you have received new or increased awards (scholarships, tuition waivers, grants, etc.) since we made the original financial aid offer to you, we may have to adjust your financial aid before we can disburse funds. We will make adjustments and disburse the aid for which you are eligible as quickly as possible.

Is This Your First Semester to Receive a Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan at OSU?

  • If this is your first semester to borrow through the Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan program at OSU, you need to electronically ’sign’ your master promissory note and complete loan entrance counseling.  Both of these requirements are completed using the Internet. Continuing borrowers in these programs who have already been awarded and have accepted their loan(s) for the year do not have to complete these requirements again.
  • To electronically sign your Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan Master Promissory Note, you need the U.S. Dept of Education PIN you received when you filed the FAFSA (this is not your OSU PIN). Go to the Direct Loan Servicing Center and follow all the directions to complete the promissory note.
  • You can complete the Entrance Counseling requirement on the web at the Direct Loan Servicer.
  • Once you complete each of these requirements, OSU will be notified automatically (you don’t need to bring anything back to us); however, please allow 2-3 days for us to receive the information.
