First Disbursement of Spring 2005 Financial Assistance:
- The first time most grants, loans, and scholarships are scheduled to show on student Bursar accounts is the middle of the first week of classes.
- OTAG, OHLAP, and a few scholarships will be disbursed after drop/add.
- Beginning the 2nd week of school, any subsequent disbursements would appear on Bursar accounts on Monday or Wednesday mornings.
- OTAG Recipients: You do not need to "accept" your award; OSU will automatically accept awards for eligible students just prior to disbursement on or around the 3rd week of classes.
How Can I Tell if My Aid has been Disbursed?
- You can check your awards and disbursement status on the web at OSU SIS Web for Students. Logon with your OSU ID number and OSU PIN (see instructions in the "About" section of the OSU SIS web page)
- View disbursements and check the status of any refunds processed by the OSU Bursar's Office by clicking on the "Account Summary" link.
- View awards and other financial aid information by clicking on the "Personal Scholarship and Financial Aid Information" link.
Refunds of Excess Funds:
- The OSU Bursar’s Office processes refunds to students who have remaining money on their accounts after all current charges (including Spring 2005 Residential Life charges) have been paid.
- If bookstore or other OSU charges are posted to your account after the refund date, you will need to make a payment to the Bursar.
- Direct Deposit of refunds are processed daily by the Bursar's Office. If you don’t have Direct Deposit, we strongly encourage you take a deposit slip or voided check to the Bursar’s Office in 113 Student Union and complete the required form. You can also download the Direct Deposit Form from the Bursar's Office website.
- Refund Checks for students who have not signed up for Direct Deposit are mailed by the Bursar's Office once every two weeks.
What Will Prevent Disbursement of Financial Aid?
Your eligibility for assistance is based on your educational costs, your enrollment plans, your financial need, and the availability of funds at the time of your award. Any change to these factors after your original award has been made and/or disbursed may cause an adjustment to your eligibility and/or require repayment of some or all federal, state, university, and/or private funds you received for which you were not eligible.
How Many Hours are You Enrolled In?
- Are you enrolled in the number of hours you indicated when you accepted your award(s)? You can review the minimum number of hours on which your financial aid is based by logging onto the OSU SIS-Web system, clicking on the "Personal Scholarships and Financial Aid Information" and selecting "Estimated Cost and Enrollment Information" from the menu.
- Dropping classes during the 100% tuition refund period: If you drop classes during the 100% refund period, your financial aid will be revised based on the new level of enrollment. You may be required to repay some or all previously disbursed aid.
- Withdrawing from all classes: If you withdraw from all classes, financial aid eligibility will be recalculated based on the number of days you were enrolled. You may be required to return funds to the OSU Bursar's Office. If your aid has not been disbursed, you may be eligible to receive a portion of the aid you have accepted.
- Failure to attend class throughout the semester: If you enroll for classes and you do not withdraw; yet you fail to attend class throughout the semester, you may be required to return funds to the OSU Bursar's Office. Your financial aid eligibility will be recalculated based on the last date of attendance as reported by the instructor(s). Any aid based on classes for which attendance cannot be determined will be returned to the aid programs. You will be required to repay all aid returned.
- Tuition or Cash Scholarships: If you are receiving a tuition or cash scholarship, are you enrolled in the correct number of hours to receive the award? Most undergraduate scholarships require a minimum of 12 hours of enrollment each semester.
- Multi-Year Scholarships: If you receive a multi-year scholarship you may have to complete a specific number of hours and attain a specific GPA each academic year to retain the scholarship. If you are unsure of the requirements, review your scholarship award letter and acceptance form or contact the awarding department/agency.
- Graduate Students: If you are a graduate student, you should check with your academic department to determine the enrollment requirements to receive a graduate scholarships/tuition waiver.
Have You Received Additional Awards?
In general, students cannot receive more financial assistance than their cost of attendance. If you have not already done so, you can notify our office of the additional award(s) by completing the online Additional Resources Form. If you have received new or increased awards (scholarships, tuition waivers, grants, etc.) since we made the original financial aid offer to you, we may have to adjust your financial aid before we can disburse spring assistance. We will make adjustments and disburse the aid for which you are eligible as quickly as possible.
Is This Your First Semester to Receive a Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan at OSU?
- If this is your first semester to borrow through the Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan program at OSU, you need to electronically ’sign’ your master promissory note and complete loan entrance counseling. Both of these requirements are completed using the World Wide Web. Continuing borrowers in these programs who have already been awarded and have accepted their loan(s) for the year do not have to complete these requirements again.
- To electronically sign your Subsidized/Unsubsidized Loan Master Promissory Note, you need the U.S. Dept of Education PIN you received when you filed the FAFSA (this is not your OSU PIN). Go to the Direct Loan Servicing Center and follow all the directions to complete the promissory note.
- When you are completing the necessary online processes for your Direct Loans (including master promissory notes and
entrance counseling), please check to make sure the computer you are using has Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher
(this process cannot be completed using AOL or any other provider). The computer you use must also have Adobe Acrobat
Reader version 5.0 or higher installed (most recent version, Acrobat Reader 8.0). If you don’t have access to a computer with the necessary software, you can use
the computers in our Scholarships unit, 213 Student Union.
Download Free Internet Explorer.
Download Free Adobe Acrobat Reader. - You can complete the Entrance Counseling requirement on the web at the Direct Loan Servicer.
- Once you complete each of these requirements, OSU will be notified automatically (you don’t need to bring anything back to us); however, please allow 2-3 days for us to receive the information.
