Subject:
confined water book
Chapter
Authors:
We are approaching/entering the summer break time, at least in parts of the
States, so it is time to seriously think about the preparation of the chapters
for the book "Water in Confined Geometries". This is being sent to
those potential authors who have agreed, with more or less enthusiasm, to write
a chapter for the book. The list of authors and subjects is now complete, so in
addition to encouraging you to start preparation of the chapter, we are
enclosing a list of the authors/titles, and a tentative indication of the
sectioning of the book. In a matter of days, we hope to formalize much of this
on a web site with somewhat greater detail. Shortly thereafter we will be
looking for suggestions from the authors on the overall organization of the
book, as well as brief abstracts from each author to help with that
organization. At this time you should a) check that the title is to your
satisfaction and b) proceed with the assurance that the construction of each
chapter should resemble that of a JPC feature article, with a somewhat extended
introduction followed by a focus on your own methods and results. The length of
each chapter is still projected as in the range of 15-20 book pages.
The
book will appear in the Springer-Verlag Cluster series. It is conceived as a
collection of interesting monographs written by people who are seriously
interested in various aspects of the subject. However, there will be an effort
to construct a cohesive monograph on the general subject, hopefully with a
minimum of intrusion on the objectives of the individual authors. Nominally, the
time scale for submission of a manuscript is mid-Fall of 2001. The tangible
recompense for each chapter will be a copy of the book and 200 DM.
The
book will be separated into sections more or less as follows: theoretical
studies of intermolecular interactions ( Szalewicz, Tao, Xantheas), neutral and
ionic water clusters (Buck, Garrett, Jordan, Lisy), solid and liquid water
surfaces/interfaces (Buch, Cowin, Dang, Ewing, Shultz, Tanaka), amorphous ice
layers (Baragiola, Kay), ice and Water particles (Bartell, Devlin), water in
biosystems (Berkowitz, Gerber, Tobias, Zwier), and topics related to the
atmosphere (Jungwirth, Pettersson, Sodeau). Scientists who have agreed to submit
a chapter are listed alphabetically below. All titles that are included can be
regarded as tentative, but those titles suggested by the authors are identified
by quotation marks. In some cases chapters will have co-authors who are not
listed at this time.
