The White Woods Retirement Campus (WWRC) project was initiated in 2003 when the Emeriti Association appointed a committee to begin plans. The Association had planned toward and anticipated a retirement center in Stillwater for a long time and worked with the University to do so but the plans had not progressed.
Shortly after the formation of the planning group, Milton and Mary Lou Morris offered 35 acres of land southwest of Stillwater as a building site which gave the project its first real impetus. Since then, the land has been annexed to the city and zoned for this type of residential building.
The Board
The members of the WWRC board are: Esther Winterfeldt, President; Ron Beer, Vice President; Robert Henrickson, Secretary; Bill Brown, Treasurer; and members Milton Morris, Gary Clark, Mary Frye, Larry Shell, Grace Provence, Larry Perkins, and Mark Galliart.
The board was incorporated in Oklahoma and was granted 501-C-3 status. Several studies were completed that affirmed the feasibility of such a facility in Stillwater and Wes Watkins assisted us in making contacts with a development company and a funding firm in Norman.
The Facility
The facility will offer patio homes and apartments for independent living, apartments (one and two bedroom) for assisted living, and long-term nursing care beds. In addition, a physical fitness-wellness center, swimming pool, common dining room and living areas, game rooms, library and computer rooms will be available.
Through an affiliation with OSU, the University bus line will be extended to the facility. Residents will be able to take full advantage of University activities including sports, cultural programs, special events, and classes if desired.
Under the present plans, residents wilkl pay an entrance fee and a monthly maintenance fee. Meal choices will be available as well as housekeeping assistance, security measures, parking, maintenance, and attractive landscaping throughout.
