Billy Crynes The OSU Emeriti Association will start the new year with a mix of music and humor when they meet on Jan. 5 for the First Friday Dinner. The evening’s program will feature the harmony of a barbershop quartet and a lesson on the history of the American outhouse by Dr. Billy Crynes.

As for the dinner, Sharon Brown, vice-president for activities for the Emeriti, says members and their guests will have a choice of a variety of dishes. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. in Click Hall in the ConocoPhillips OSU Alumni Center. The cost will be $8.00 per person.

Dr. Crynes, a chemical engineer, was on the faculty of Oklahoma State University from 1967 to 1987. From 1978 to 1987 he was the department head. In 1987 he left to become the dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. He retired from OU in 2002.

The title of Crynes’ presentation is “Outhouses: A Passing Americana.” He says it will be a “light, lively presentation about the history of outhouses in America.” The program includes facts about outhouses, as well as pictures of outhouses from the area and the Midwest.
