AFRL Information Directorate is seeking a Senior Research
Scientist in the field of Artificial Intelligence, including knowledge-based
systems, mixed-initiative planning, planning and scheduling, knowledge
acquisition and representation, problem solving and advanced reasoning,
complex system diagnosis and design aimed at decreasing cost and improving
the performance of Air Force/Department of Defense information systems.
This individual will be the Air Force expert on this topic and will ensure that the Air Force is aware of the latest research and development achievement essential to guiding Air Force investment and applications. The Sr Scientist will serve as expert consultant to military groups and panels, to industry, and to scientific professional groups and societies.
The Sr Scientist will work under the very general direction of the Director who allows maximum possible freedom in the execution and application of technical ability, judgment and initiative. Reliance is placed upon the Sr Scientist to identify, plan, and conduct highly complex technological research for the Laboratory. Recommendations and decisions are considered technically authoritative and work is reviewed only for compliance with broad policies and objectives. In technical matters, the Sr Scientist is considered to have preeminent judgment.
The AFRL Information Directorate, Rome Research Site, is located in Rome, New York, at the Griffiss Business & technology Park. Its mission is the advancement and application of information systems science and technology for aerospace command and control and its transition to air, space, and ground systems to meet customer needs in the area of Global Awareness, Dynamic Planning and Execution and Global Information Exchange. Required Skills: 10 or more years of progressively responsible research work after attainment of a PhD. Candidates must demonstrate relevant scientific experience and achievement at the national and international level, as evidenced by publications, honors, leadership activity, or academic standing. Election as a fellow of a professional and scientific society or other comparable national/international recognition is highly desirable.
