The Technical
Activities Board of the IEEE,
at its meeting of November 17, 2001, in Mexico City, endorsed the creation
of the
Neural Networks Society (from the Neural
Networks Council). The three motions required to gain such endorsement
were passed unanimously.
The matter now proceeds to the IEEE
Board of Directors, which is fully expected to approve the formation
of the Society, effective
January 1, 2002, at its meeting of February 2002 in Tempe, Arizona.
Once again, I thank you for all your help. Throughout this effort we have impressed TAB, BOD, and IEEE Staff with our organization, dedication, and perseverance. I want to know that your help and support in this effort---thought once, by others, to be a foolhardy enterprise---is sincerely and deeply appreciated.
It is a privilege to greet all those who support our Council through their participation in our technical and educational programs, our conferences and workshops, and their interest in our learned journals.
