Programs

College Teaching - Ed.D - The Ed.D. in College Teaching is an interdisciplinary degree designed to prepare students for lives of inquiry, application, and discovery in post-secondary settings. In line with the mission of the College of Education, the interdisciplinary degree has as its goal the preparation of students for operation in post-secondary contexts where they can call upon and apply a diverse array of theory and research driven educational practices.

Higher Education - Ed.D  - This degree is a research-based degree designed to prepare individuals to contribute to the field of higher education through professions that emphasize the application of theory. The focus is on the preparation of individuals who can use existing theory and research to enhance administrative practice in public and private higher education institutions and agencies.

School Administration - Ed.D -   This degree is a research-based degree designed to prepare individuals to contribute to the field of school administration through professions that emphasize the application of theory. The focus is on the preparation of individuals who can use existing theory and research to enhance administrative practice in public and private schools and educational agencies.

Educational Leadership & Policy Studies - Ph.D. - The Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies is a research-focused degree designed to prepare individuals to contribute to the field of Higher Education or School Administration through professions (e.g., teaching, research, and policy analysis) that emphasize the generation and testing of theory. Although the degree will enhance students’ understanding of practice in higher education or school administration, the focus is on the preparation of individuals who aspire to careers in academia or comparable research positions. Within the degree are the options of higher education and educational administration.

Educational Leadership Studies - M.S (Options)

  • School Administration- This degree option is designed to prepare individuals for leadership positions in PK-12 schools, career technology centers, private schools, and state agencies. It satisfies the course and portfolio requirements for building level certification. Coursework is designed to prepare students to be effective leaders within their buildings, districts, and communities.
  • Higher Education- This degree is designed to prepare students  for  entry level and mid level management position at public and private  colleges and universities. In addition, the program is intended to provide  maximum flexibility in meeting the specific needs of staff in their current  positions and to contribute to their professional mobility and development  in  Higher education.
  • College Student Development - This degree is designed prepares  students for entry level positions in student affairs in colleges and  universities. This is an inter-disciplinary program that includes preparation  in  human development, counseling, administration and research. Students  in this option are drawn from a national pool of applicants. These students  have a variety of academic preparation at the undergraduate level and  represent a diversity of interest and skills related to student affairs.

Programs- Certifications

Building level (principal) and district level (superintendent) certifications can be achieved through master’s and doctoral degrees, respectively. The Oklahoma Commission on Teacher Preparation and the State Department of Education set the criteria for certification and issue certificates, respectively. The degrees are designed to prepare students for these administrative positions.
 
If individuals currently hold a master’s degree in some area other than administration, they can earn alternative certification. After applying to the OSU Graduate College as a “special student,” a person can request review of his/her transcript for a determination of the coursework necessary to earn the alternative certification.
