COE Scholarships - SAHEP
Charles A. “Adam” Esslinger Outdoor Recreation Fellowship
Graduate - (up to $500)
- Must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in Applied Health and Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Outdoor Recreation
- Must be in good academic standing
- Must have demonstrated an experiential involvement with nature and a desire to develop an involvement in outdoor recreation and/or outdoor education
- Must be will to be interviewed if the fellowship panel so desires
Terence J. Mills Environmental Education Scholarship
Graduate – (up to $500)
- Must be a graduate student enrolled in at least 6 hours at OSU
- Must be an elementary or secondary education major working toward an advanced degree in the Environmental Science Graduate program, with specialization in Environmental Education.
- Special consideration shall be given, in order, to students that are 1) Native American, 2) female or 3) to other applicants who meet the criteria listed above
Betty Abercrombie Memorial Scholarship
Graduate – (up to $1000)
- Must be enrolled as a graduate student in the COE at OSU
- Must be pursuing either a mast or doctorate degree in Health and Human Performance
- Must have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA
- First preference shall be given to a female student from Enid, Oklahoma
- When all other things are equal, preference shall be given to the applicant with the most financial need
A.B. Harrison Scholarship
Graduate-(up to $1,000)
- Must have potential as a graduate student and potential for doing research
- Must be enrolled as a graduate student working toward a degree with emphasis in Applied Health and Educational Psychology
- Must be a full time graduate student or serve as a graduate assistant
Christine Cashel Endowed Professional Scholarship Graduate / Undergraduate – (up to $750)
- Must be enrolled as a full-time student in the COE at OSU
- Must be a Leisure Studies major
- Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
- Must have demonstrated leadership potential through either their involvement in the Leisure Studies program and/or profession. Recipient should be able to articulate their future professional goals and how they will contribute to the profession.
Lana B. Stone Diversity Scholarship
Graduate-(up to $400)
- Must be enrolled as a graduate in the Counseling Psychology program in the College of Education at OSU
- Must be a graduate student who has maintained a minimum 3.5 GPA
- Must have demonstrated a professional or personal commitment to encourage diversity in all settings. This demonstration may include but is not limited to activities such as active participation in any of the following: Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) or Sexual Orientation Diversity Association (SODA) and/or writing or research in gay, lesbian, and/or transgender issues.)
Myron C. Ledbetter Diversity Scholarship
Graduate-(up to $900)
- Must be enrolled as a graduate in the Counseling Psychology Department in the College of Education at OSU
- Must be a graduate student who has maintained a minimum 3.5 GPA
- Must have demonstrated a professional or personal commitment to encourage diversity in all settings. This demonstration may include but is not limited to activities such as active participation in any of the following: Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) or Sexual Orientation Diversity Association (SODA) and/or writing or research in gay, lesbian, and/or transgender issues, especially those relating to local and state statutes within Oklahoma, and/or expressed religious viewpoints.)
Patricia Cornforth Scholarship
Graduate-(up to $300)
- Awarded to a student in Therapeutic Recreation
- Student must display sensitivity and compassion in working with older persons
- Student must either be taking or have taken pre-internship seminars to be awarded this scholarship prior to their internship
- Students applying should make sure their goals statement includes information demonstrating how they have displayed sensitivity and compassion to older persons through leisure: and how they have promoted leisure as a part of lifelong learning to older persons.
Toni & Bill Stone Endowed Scholarship
Undergraduate or graduate-(up to $1500)
- Must be enrolled as a full time graduate or undergraduate student in the COE at OSU
- Must intend to teach
- Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Must exhibit financial need
- Must demonstrate good character
Georgan Wallace Reitmeier Endowed Scholarship
Undergraduate or graduate-(up to $400)
- Must be enrolled as a full time student in the COE at OSU
- Must intend to teach
- Must have earned a minimum 3.0 GPA
Broyles-Willard Family Scholarship
Undergraduate or graduate-(up to $500)
- Must be enrolled as a full time student in the COE at OSU
- Must be pursuing a degree in classroom teaching
- Must demonstrate strong leadership abilities
- Must remain in good academic standing as determined by the standards established by the OSU College of Education
- Scholarship may be renewed for up to two years provided recipient maintain established criteria for retention
Clayton A. Morgan Excellence Scholarship
Undergraduate or graduate-(up to $600)
- Must be enrolled as a full time student in the COE at OSU
- Must be dedicated to academic excellence
- Must have great faith in the human potential and must be excited about that faith being expressed in helpful, constructive ways
- Must desire to be an instrument in helping people come alive in maximizing the potential
- First preference shall be given to a student with a career goal of teaching or counseling children or adults with special needs
- Second preference shall be given to a student with a career goal of teaching or counseling children or adults in general
Eddie Sutton Endowed Scholarship
Undergraduate-(up to $1,000)
- Must be enrolled as a full time student at OSU in the College of Education
- Must have minimum of a 3.0 GPA
- Must be pursuing a teaching degree
Jameson Family Endowed Scholarship
Undergraduate-(up to $400)
- Must be enrolled as full time student at OSU
- Must possess a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Must plan to devote their lives to teaching
- Preference shall be given to a junior or senior student
Valerie Colvin Scholarship Award
Undergraduate-(up to $500)
- Student who has completed their junior year
- Enrolled in a program of professional preparation in health or physical education or recreation offered by SAHEP
Pauline Winter Endowed Professional Scholarship
Undergraduate-(up to $1,500)
- Must be enrolled as a full time student in the COE
- Must be classified as a sophomore, junior or senior
- Must have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
- Must demonstrate involvement in the professional clubs and activities and demonstrate a commitment to the field
- Should be able to articulate their future professional goals and how they will contribute to the profession
Myr-Lou Rollins-Wade Endowed Scholarship
Undergraduate-(up to $500)
- Student must be enrolled as a full time student in COE
- Student pursuing a degree as a physical education with a special interest including creative rhythms and movement in their curriculum
- Student must have a GPA of at least 3.0
- Student must demonstrate financial need
Jordan Family Scholarship
Undergraduate or graduate-(up to $750)
- Must be enrolled as a full time senior or graduate student in the COE at OSU
- Must be pursuing a degree in Leisure Studies
- Must be in good academic standing
- Must have exemplified himself/herself through service to persons with disabilities
- While employment history may be considered, the primary focus of this award should be volunteer activities and prior activities that exceed the normal expectations of the job
- A student may be awarded this scholarship only once during his/her academic career
Dr. Donald Cooper Endowed Scholarship in Athletic Training
Undergraduate-(up to $1,050)
- Must be enrolled as a full time student in the College of Education
- Must be majoring in athletic training (clinical)
- Must have at least a 2.5 GPA
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Must show a commitment to the field of athletic training (clinical)
- Applicant must also write a one-page statement explaining why they want to be an athletic trainer
Brian Luinstra Memorial Scholarship
Undergraduate-(up to $750)
- Must be enrolled as a full time junior or senior student at OSU
- Must have a declared major in Athletic Training (clinical)
- Should exemplify dedication, hard work and loyalty with a willingness to teach others and treat others fairly
- First preference shall be given to a student working as a trainer for the OSU men’s basketball team
XEROX Corporation Endowed Scholarship Undergraduate or graduate-(up to $700)
- Must be an Oklahoma resident who is enrolled as a full time student in the COE at OSU
- Must show outstanding potential for the teaching profession
