Master's in Counseling Program
Oklahoma State University
Letter of Welcome
I would like to introduce our master's program in Counseling at Oklahoma State University. Our master's program has been accredited by CACREP (Counseling and Counseling Related Educational Programs). We offer two specializations in our program: Community Counseling and School Counselng. Our Community counseling program is a 60 graduate credit hour program designed to meet the Oklahoma State licensure requirements for licensure as a professional counselor. The School Counseling program is a 57 graduate credit hour program designed to meet Oklahoma state certification for school counselors. While most of our students are from Oklahoma, we do have students from other states as well as international students.
Our program offers a variety of counseling training opportunities and experiences. I think you will find that our program provides excellent training for becoming a counselor (master's level) in a variety of settings (e.g.,university counseling centers, community mental health centers, hospitals, and schools). We strongly believe in matching training experiences to the interests and skills of our students. We offer a number of different practica and internship settings for students to gain counseling experiences with clients. At Oklahoma State University, we work hard to ensure that students' learning experiences combine both the support and challenge that they need to grow and learn. Most of our students admitted to the master's program finish in 2 years, assuming they take approximately 9-12 hours per semester of graduate coursework. However, students do have the option of taking courses on a part-time basis.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions or comments about our programs. If you'd like to speak to current students in our program, I would be very happy to arrange that for you. Just let me know at barb.carlozzi@okstate.edu.
Sincerely,
Barbara Carlozzi, Ph.D.
