COE’s Dr. Mary Jo Self to be President of NAITTE

Dr. Mary Jo Self, College of Education School of Teaching and Curriculum Leadership, has been named president-elect of the National Association of Industrial Technical Teacher Educators. She is the first woman elected to this position.

The NAITTE was founded in 1937 to develop closer cooperation among educators engaged in the preparation of teachers in industrial arts (now technology education), trade and industrial education, and technical education. The goal of NAITTE is to improve the quality of teacher education, disseminate information about research and development with implications for the field, and to promote the common good of the group.

In 1984, NAITTE officially expanded its services to include the industrial and military training component of human resource development. The area of human resource development is the fastest growing area of service NAITTE members are involved in. From its early beginnings to current activities, the association has had national representation and provided opportunities for cutting-edge professional development.

The NAITTE advances and promotes excellence in industrial and technical teacher education and trainer training in all settings. The Association accomplishes this goal by providing opportunities for professional improvement for its members, promoting cooperation among related groups in the field, and serving as authority on and advocate for industrial and technical teacher education and trainer training.
