New Flight Simulator Enhances COE Aviation Program
The OSU Aviation Program's new MOTUS 622i full-motion flight simulator has received final approval from the Federal Aviation Administration.
The MOTUS 622i, which arrived in September, has been fully integrated into the flight training program with instrument, commercial, and multi-engine lessons. The simulator is programmable, and represents a unique training opportunity for students to experience adverse weather, equipment failures, and other in-flight scenarios that could never be safely duplicated in an actual aircraft. It allows students to fly three types of aircraft.
The simulator will also be used for research involving aviation psychology.
According to OSU flight center manager Terry Hunt, this machine makes OSU even more competitive with other flight schools. Many schools simply have a computer program without the full-motion effects and often only represent a particular aircraft.
Graduating aviation students will be able to practice on the simulator to help prepare them for job interviews.
The simulator was financed through the Regents in a master lease program.
