The OSU Flight Team, the Flying Aggies, placed 2nd overall and dominated the “flying events” at the Regional Competition. The School of Teaching and Curriculum Leadership (STCL), the Curriculum Materials Library, and the students in Dr. Suzii Parsons' Foundations of Literacy Class hosted a Sequoyah Book Award Celebration on November 16 in the Curriculum Materials Library. The Sequoyah Book Award is an Oklahoma-based children's choice award that honors high quality books for children or young adults. Each year the Oklahoma Library Association identifies a list of quality selections to be read and voted on by Oklahoma children; the winners are announced each February. The OSU celebration was designed to educate students and faculty about the award and to encourage reading of these outstanding books. Events scheduled throughout the day included book talks by faculty members, readers' theater presentations featuring Sequoyah nominated books, a book walk (like a cake walk, but highlighting books and offering books as prizes), and book bingo (again, with books as prizes).
