School Psychology Program Receives American Psychological Association Accreditation

The COE School Psychology Program was granted continuing national accreditation by the American Psychological Association. The program had a successful re-accreditation review and the visiting team was impressed with all aspects of the program. Their comments were based on an extensive review of eight assessment program standard domains.  Dr. Terry Stinnett, professor of educational and school psychology, successfully led the group’s doctoral program reaccreditation site visit.

“The reaccreditation of the OSU school psychology program by the American Psychological Association’s Committee on Accreditation reaffirmed the program’s excellence as a scientist–practitioner program,” Stinnett said.  “This recognition marks OSU’s program as a member of an elite group of APA-accredited programs in school psychology.  There are only about 50 accredited programs across the nation out of over 300 school psychology programs. The School Psychology faculty wish to thank the program students and as well as their colleagues in the COE for helping to achieve and sustain the program.”

According to Stinnett, the Committee on Accreditation (COA) particularly noted the program is systematic and coherent in its efforts to attract and retain students of diverse backgrounds, for the mutual respect and courtesy that is evident among students and faculty, and for its commitment to excellence through ongoing self study.  The COA also commented that the program was clearly aligned with the mission of OSU and appropriate to the science and practice of professional psychology.

The program first received accreditation in October 1997.
