"The Changing Dynamics of the Knowledge Business:
Trying to Predict the Unpredictable (and Its Effects)"
Crystal balls, amulets, and tea leaves are not the typical go-to tools of effective universities. However, today's campus leaders must lead as though they are clairvoyant and many are seeking insight from a variety of traditional and not-so-traditional sources. Peering into the future of the knowledge business, with its ill-defined and shifting boundaries, morphing expectations, and constantly changing set of players, is at the least challenging. What are the trends that may reshape higher education? What rules of the game may serve well higher education and what is at risk? This lecture, given by Peter Eckel of the American Council on Education, seeks to identify some emerging trends and challenges that may shape the future of American higher education in the changing knowledge economy.
