The student is governed
by and is responsible
for all University
Academic Regulations
provided in the
OSU Catalog. A
partial summary of the
regulations are
summarized below.
GENERAL
You
must complete the
bachelor’s degree
requirements provided on
an IE&M checksheet. You
may use any checksheet
which corresponds to
your first date (or
later) of enrollment
(matriculation) at an
institution of higher
education and is dated
no more than six years
before your date of
graduation (e.g., the
1998 requirements must
be completed by July,
2004 - Academic
Regulation 3.2).
A
Graduation/Retention
grade point average of
2.00 or higher must be
earned for the specified
hours on the degree
checksheet (including
any electives), in
addition to the 2.00 or
higher g.p.a. required
by the department in the
major field. Calculation
of major g.p.a. includes
all courses in the right
hand column of the
Industrial Engineering
and Management major
requirements sheet
(Academic Regulation
7.6).
No
courses may be taken
Pass/No Pass and the
School of IE&M has no
free electives (Advanced
Standing or CLEP credit
are the exception -
Academic Regulation
6.6).
CLEP
or Advanced Standing
Exams may NOT be a part
of the last fifteen
hours used for a degree
(Academic Regulation
4.6).
Credits earned through
extension plus any
credits earned through
correspondence cannot
exceed one-fourth of the
credits required for a
bachelor’s degree.
Students may not use
transfer credits to
satisfy more than
one-half of the IE&M
course requirements.
Credits earned through
Advanced Standing
examinations cannot
exceed one-half of the
total semester hours
required at the
lower-division level or
the upper-division level
(Academic Regulations
4.2, 4.3 and 4.6).
A
diploma application
should be filed with the
Registrar’s Office
within the first two
weeks of the semester in
which you expect to
graduate. A graduation
fee must be paid with
the tuition for the
final semester (Academic
Regulations 7.7 and
7.9).
If
you have a grade of "I",
be sure that you
complete the
requirements to have the
"I" removed within one
year and also be sure
that your instructor has
changed the grade in the
Registrar’s Office. The
maximum credit a student
can earn over any period
of time is equal to one
and one-half times the
number of weeks in that
period (e.g., three
hours in two weeks;
twenty-four hours in
sixteen weeks - Academic
Regulations 5.2 and
6.2).
A
candidate for graduation
must be enrolled in the
College of Engineering,
Architecture and
Technology for at least
two semesters, or one
semester and one summer
session, or three summer
sessions immediately
preceding graduation
(Academic Regulations
7.3 and 7.4).
The
University requires a
minimum of six semester
credit hours in English
composition for a
baccalaureate degree.
The required sequence of
courses is ENGL 1113 and
ENGL 3323 (Academic
Regulation 3.5).
Deviations from required
courses must have the
approval of the
Undergraduate Program
Advisor, School Head,
and the Dean of
Engineering,
Architecture and
Technology. Lower
division courses may not
be used as deviations
for upper division
requirements unless the
upper division
requirements are waived
as a part of the
division. Required
courses in English,
American History, and
American Government
cannot be waived
(Academic Regulation
3.8).
FOR STUDENTS WITH
TRANSFER CREDIT
At
least sixty credit hours
must be taken at an
accredited 4-year
university (Academic
Regulation 1.2).
One-half of the upper
division requirements in
the student’s major are
to be completed in
residence at OSU
(Academic Regulation 1.2
and 7.2)
The
student must have earned
at least twenty-four
hours of residence
credit at OSU including
the last eighteen hours
of credit (Academic
Regulation 7.2).
Credits earned in junior
college cannot exceed a
total of sixty-five
hours toward a B.S.
degree (Academic
Regulation 1.2).
Concurrent enrollment at
another institution and
at OSU, must be approved
in advance by the
Undergraduate Program
Advisor and the Dean of
Engineering,
Architecture and
Technology (Academic
Regulation 5.5).
A
maximum of eight hours
of extension credit and
eight hours of
correspondence credit
earned at another
institution may be
applied toward degree
requirements at OSU
(Academic Regulation
4.2).
FOR STUDENTS PURSUING AN
HONORS DEGREE
You
must have a grade point
average of 3.5, both
overall and in the major
field.
You
must have a total of
twelve semester credit
hours with grades of "A"
or "B" in honors
sections of first or
second year courses from
at least three of the
following areas: English
or foreign languages,
mathematics or logic,
social sciences, natural
or physical sciences,
and humanities.
You
must have honors credit
with grades of "A" or
"B" in a total of twelve
semester hours of junior
and senior courses
within your major field,
including at least three
hours of independent
study.
You
must complete a formal
application for the
honors degree within two
weeks after the
beginning of the
semester in which you
expect to graduate.
If you have any
questions about any of
the above requirements,
please talk to the
Director of Engineering
Student Services (EN
101) or to the IE&M
Undergraduate Program
Advisor for
clarification.
Remember, YOU are
responsible for knowing
and meeting the
requirements of your
IE&M check-sheet.
