The exuberance of Spring is rivalled by upstart brothers Eugene and Stanley, autobiographical counterparts of the young Neil Simon and sibling, as they try to blossom into professional comedy writers. Confronted at the same time with the breakup of their parents' marriage, the brothers provide Simon's "most accomplished writing" with scenes which are "expectedly funny and unexpectedly moving." Rena Cook directs this delightful concoction of humor and pathos.
