Oklahoma State University is in Stillwater, a community of 42,000 located 65 miles from both Tulsa and Oklahoma City. The region is a mixture of tall-grass prairie and forest; the climate is dry, with mild winters and hot summers. The campus is attractively landscaped and all buildings are air-conditioned. Excellent, moderately priced housing is available on campus for both single and married students.
Research facilities in the Botany Department include a herbarium, plant growth chambers, greenhouse space, and instrumentation for anatomical, physiological, biochemical, and molecular studies. The department administers the 180-acre McPherson Botanical Reserve 8 miles west of Stillwater, which has riparian, prairie, and cross-timbers habitat for field studies. Botany graduate students utilize other research resources on campus, including the Electron Microscopy Laboratory, the Hybridoma Center for Agricultural and Biological Sciences, and the Recombinant DNA/Protein Resource Facility.
