SFC McClendon was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from high school in 1982 and enlisted in the United States Army as an Infantry soldier. He has attended both the Airborne and Air Assault schools and has earned the Expert Infantryman's Badge. SFC McClendon has graduated from numerous leadership schools and the United States Army Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Course.
SFC McClendon's assignments include the United Nations Command, Joint Security Force in Korea; Fort Lewis, Washington; U.S. Army Recruiting Command in Utah and California; and Scholfield Barracks, Hawaii. He also participated in Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti.
SFC McClendon and his wife Jacey live in Stillwater.
