The Computer Lab
The Speech Communication Department's multimedia laboratory is located at 105 Morrill. The hours of the lab's availability are available by calling (405) 744-6150, or can be found posted outside of the lab.
The lab is equipped with 14 power Macintosh 8500's, each loaded with interactive multimedia programs. Dr. Jim Hughey, the father of the laboratory, designed the lab to cater to those who enjoy learning through other mediums than the typical "book and lecture" approach to higher education.
Designed to complement the basic SPCH 2713 course, the course textbook can be accessed from the terminals, as well as other learning aids and enrichment programs. The lab features former 2713 students presenting speeches, and critiques of those presentations, enabling the student to interactively learn from those who have gone before them. The student may also use the lab to research a speech topic, leave a message for a professor, take a practice test, and learn more about the faculty and other courses in the department.
The computer lab provides an opportunity for students to not only learn about the courses and the department, but also to author interactive, teaching programs. Graduate students are able to gain valuable teaching experience by working in the lab, and Dr. Hughey also offers various workshops designed to teach those interested how to use multimedia a teaching vehicle.
