Teaching Programs

Mission:
The primary purpose of our teaching program is to produce well-educated, employable
professionals in Horticulture and Landscape Architecture.

The Department offers 39 undergraduate courses, of which 20 are in Horticulture and 23 are in Landscape Architecture and Landscape Contracting. There are 13 faculty members, excluding the department head, that participate in undergraduate teaching.

The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources is unique on the OSU campus in that the teaching faculty in individual departments do all of the undergraduate advising. This allows us to pair each student with a faculty member in his/her specific area of interest, and helps to distribute the advising load. Dr. Brian Kahn serves as the department's Undergraduate Advising Coordinator. Dr. Jeff Anderson serves as the department's Graduate Coordinator.

Goals:

  • Increase recruiting to increase numbers of high-quality students for our programs, and to retain students once they enter our programs
  • To provide effective, high-quality resident instruction in the latest technologies in our fields
  • To ensure that students possess the skills and experience necessary to meet the employment needs of our industries
  • To provide students with correct guidance in meeting graduation requirements, and empathetic assistance in adjusting to the college experience.
