Teaching Activities: Dr. Bell currently teaches turfgrass management, an introductory turfgrass course for turf majors and non-majors, turfgrass science, an advanced course focusing on turfgrass physiology and ecology, and personnel and financial management for horticulture. Students in these classes gain knowledge in plant systems, plant management, and business management skills that provide the basis for sound decision-making in the field.

Research Activities: Greg is involved in a variety of research projects focusing on turfgrass physiology and management systems. The climate at Oklahoma State presents unique opportunities to study both warm-season and cool-season grasses. Dr. Bell and Dr. Dennis Martin work closely with several other investigators to provide research that addresses both national and regional turfgrass concerns. Dr. Bell's primary research objective is to investigate connections between basic plant physiology and applied management systems that help turfgrass field practitioners maintain healthy, aesthetically pleasing turf and uniform playing surfaces with minimal environmental impact.

Research Activities:  Evaluation of turf-type tall fescues, Kentucky bluegrasses, fine fescues, creeping bentgrasses, zoysiagrasses and buffalograsses for adaptation to Oklahoma.  Evaluation of experimental and commercially available seeded turf-type bermudagrasses for golf course fairways, tees, roughs and home lawns.  Evaluation of management practices for use on roadside right-of-way vegetation.

Extension Activities:  Development of formal suggestions for turfgrass selection, establishment, maintenance and pest control practices on golf courses, sod farms, athletic fields and commercial grounds in Oklahoma.  Delivery of turf extension programming information to commercial and professional turf managers through a state-wide turf conference, workshops, and other printed and audio/visual media.
