Almanacs and Yearbooks - Up-to-date statistics and data about events, progress, and conditions.

American Statistics Index - A subject approach to statistics published in some 900 magazines issued by government agencies.

Applied Science and Technology Index - A subject index to articles in magazines in such fields as computer technology, energy resources and research, the construction industry, machinery, food supply, and other similar scientific topics.

Bibliographical Sources (Education Index, Bibliographic Index) - Sources on given subjects.

Bibliography of Agriculture - A subject approach to magazines and other material in the collections of the National Agricultural Library. Includes publications of agricultural experiment stations and the extension services among the titles indexed.

Biographical Sources (Biographical Index) - Specific facts about persons.

Biological and Agricultural Index - A subject index to articles in magazines in all fields of agriculture, as well as other natural sciences, such as biology, nutrition, and environmental studies.

Books in Print - Author, title, publisher, subject listing of books currently being printed.

Business Periodicals Index - A subject index to articles in magazines of interest to people in the world of business.

Card Catalog - Author, title, and subject listing of books in the library.

CIJE - Current index to articles in more than 500 journals of education.

Comprehensive Dissertation Index - An author and key word in title index to almost all North American dissertations and some foreign ones. Leads to summaries of dissertations abstracted in Dissertation Abstracts International, which lists most American dissertations.

Congressional Information Service (CIS) - A subject approach, with summaries, to publications of Congress. Includes congressional hearings and committee prints, many of which the OSU Library has.

Cumulative Book Index - Complete listing of title, author, and publisher of books in the English language.

Dictionaries - Spelling, pronunciation, usage, and meaning of words.

Directories - Names and addresses of persons, periodicals, publishers, etc.

Dissertation Abstracts and Masters’ Abstracts - Summaries of graduate research.

Education Index - Listing of articles in most educational journals and many other educational sources.

Encyclopedias - Brief overview of a topic.

Engineering Index - A subject index to magazines of interest to engineers in all fields.

ERIC - An educational information retrieval and dissemination system.

Resources in Education (RIE) - Indexes and abstracts of documents from all 16 ERIC clearinghouses.

Review of Educational Research - An overview of educational research in eleven subdivisions. A journal published by the American Educational Research Association.

Social Science Citation Index - An author and key word approach to articles and some books on topics in the social sciences, including education.

Science Citation Index - An author and key word approach to articles and some books on topics in the sciences.

Union List of Serials in Libraries of the United States and Canada - List of periodicals in different libraries.

Library Resources

General Information

Familiarize yourself with your library - its arrangement, its resources, and its services. Talk with reference librarians about:

	How to use the catalog.
	Available automated information resources, their location, and how to use them.
	Available print resources, their location, and any information needed to use them.
	Where microformatted and other non-print material is located and how to use it.
	How the books and journals are organized in the library.
	How to find out which volumes of journals you can get at the library.
	Where government publications are located in your library and how to located them.
	When the library is open.
	When librarians and staff are at the reference desks and other service points.
	The library’s interlibrary loan policies and the general time factors to keep in mind.
	Circulation policies - loan periods; placing renewals, recalls, and holds; overdue fines; charges when material is lost or damaged.

Conducting a Literature Review

	Determine what kind of information is needed (e.g. general background, technical details, historical data, statistics, photographs, maps, laws).
	Consider the reliability of the source of data (e.g. primary, secondary; bias).
	Take into account the scope and purpose of the indexes and other access tools used.
	Use references in the materials consulted.
	Keep a running record of what indexes and other resources you have consulted including date(s).
	Get the full bibliographic citation for the sources as you use them.
