An international applicant is required to meet an equivalent standard for admission, which is based on the US admission criteria. An applicant is classified in one of the following categories based on his/her previous educational background.
- Freshman - Applicant has not completed any, or has completed six or fewer semester hours, at a post-secondary level institution in which OSU accepts transfer credit.
- Transfer - Applicant has completed seven or more semester hours of credit at a post-secondary level institution in which OSU accepts transfer credit.
- Readmission - Applicant has attended classes at OSU and there is a semester break (fall or spring semester) in enrollment.
- Non-Degree Seeking - Applicant is pursuing a degree at another institution and requests to take no more than nine semester hours to transfer toward the degree at the other institution. Applicant may also be in the US on an appropriate visa classification, does not plan to pursue a degree at OSU and plans to take no more than nine semester hours.
Can I apply and not report/submit the university credentials that I have obtained?
No, applicants must submit all educational credentials available at the time of application. All new applicants must disclose their complete educational history on their application that includes all educational programs attended or plan to attend prior to enrollment at OSU. Failure to do so will affect admissibility.
Complete information regarding the submission of educational documents is listed on page 6 of the Guide to International Admissions.
Do you have a probation admission category for international applicants?
No, international applicants must meet admission in good standing requirements. There are two exceptions to this rule: readmission and Transfer Probation.
A readmission student that leaves the university with a GPA below retention standards will be required to submit a Petition for Readmission with the application for admission. The petition and all supporting documentation will then be sent to the college for review. If the petition is approved, the admission will be considered probationary.
Transfer students who do not meet admission requirements may contact Undergraduate Admissions and request a Transfer Probation Petition. Once the student completes the petition and returns it to Undergraduate Admissions, a decision regarding admission will be made by committee review and the student will be notified of the decision.

Applicants should submit course descriptions/syllabi for all courses completed at the post-secondary level when applying to OSU. This will ensure the most accurate evaluation of credit and will eliminate delays in the evaluation process.
